MURDER AND ROBBERY.

Two hundred and twenty-four persons were killed at Lodz, the Cossaoks robbing the dead of jewels and money, The hospitals are crowded with wounded, who ara lying on the floors. Shooting and rioting continued on Saturday, the rioters attempting to fire the Government offices. A bomb was thrown at the Cossack barracks on Saturday. It killed 14, and wounded 16 people. The Committee of Ministers opined that though an equitable solution Bhould; place the Jews on legal equality with the rest of the Russians, it was impossible owing to the certainty of outbursts of popular ill—j will. It was decided to leave the problem to a representative assembly. The Czar has approved. Six revolver shots wore fired at M. Smilsky, M. Bulyguine’s secretary, who was mistaken for M. Bulyguine, near the spot at .which M. Plehve was assassinated. Tho criminals esoaped. Smilsky, who escaped injury, occupiod M. Bulyguine’s carriage.

Social Democrats at Warsaw issued tho following proclamation: ‘ln order to show tho solidarity of the brothers of Lodz we protest against tbs new and incessant crimes of the Czar’s Governmont. Warsaw must stop work,, not a single factory to be open on Monday. All offices, banks, shops, and restaurants mast, close, and all traffic cease. The workmen's red flag will float in the streets.” Some rioting and encounters with tbs authorities have already begun With Warsaw workmen. The cornfields in Czestoctioroa district are afire. Eight companies of infantry and a squadron of dragoons were sent from Warsaw. The soldiers, without waiting for orders, fired volleys, kiiliog 18 and wounding 42. The insurrection in Poland is spreading rapidly.

Five prominent citizens yesterday urged General Shustoff, commanding tho troops at Lodz to give protection from' the brutality of the Cossacks, who are continu* ing ruthless slaughter. An instance cited was the millionaire Rosenblate’a servant carrying a thousand roubles to the bank. He was killed and robbed.
General Shustoff promised to punish the guilty if testimony were forthcoming. Cossaoks yesterday attacked a family o£ five Jowa proceeding to the railway statioo in a Osab. Alt were Bhot, also the driver. Thirty five Government alcohol etorss were burned during the riot*, social democrats appropriating the money and. stamps. Twelve thousand inhabitants entrained yesterday, fleeing lor their lives. The harrioades were stormed on .Friday, only by infantry, approaching on all fours, because the wire entanglements impeded, the cavalry.
