LOCAL MATCHES. WEST END v. HUIA.
Tho district matches were continued at the Victoria Domain on Saiurday last. Tho senior match was Huia and West End and was a very one-sided game right through. Huia was beaten from the kick off and never looked dangerous. West End hooked the ba’l in the serum every time, and Wi Friday got his passes out to Brown beautifully. The latter migh( have considered Roderick ond Kelly more, who were in fine form. KcUy, a promoted junior was undoubtedly tho beet back on tho ground. Ho was responsible for bringing play to the Huia lino by brilliant runs on tbe two occasions that West End soared. Tbß first try was obtained by Brown Turei from a serum on
the Huia lino. Wopiha kicked a goal. West End had a strong wind bohind thorn in tbo second spoil and woro in the Huia twenty-five all tko timo. Hod tboir backs knotfn oooh other’s ploy and had they takon tboir passes cleanly and givon them accurately and beon a little loss solfisli their score would have boon considerably 1 increased. Tho sooond try was obtained by Parker Turoi, who took tho ball splen- , didly on tho lino out and wont over tho i lino with tho Huia full back hanging to him. The West End vanguard woro a really fino set and wero on tho ball all tho timo. They beat Huia in the scrum, on the sorum, on tho lino out and in I tho loose, and tho result 8 to nil does not show tho difference botwoen tho two aides. Huia wero completely demoralißod, Sohwabe and Sherratc, in the forwards, and Sharp, at full back, beiug the ouly ones to play up to thoir usual form. Tho AVost End backs, individually, played well. Brown put in a le t of good dofensive work, but did not get his passos out at tho right moment. Ho waited too long, and tried to beat too many moil, throwing uway tho chance of tho score. Friday, at half, after learning tbero was nothing to be ga'nod by taking tho ball out of tbo scrum, playod a lino game. Carr played a hue garno at esnt-to three-quarter, and tbo wing nieu wero both brilliant, Ixoily being exceptionally eo. Tho full back scavcely saw the ball. Mr B. G. HaHamoro controlled the game, aud g.ovu complete satisfaction. Messrs J. J. Martin and G. Pelorecn hold the lino llags. Tho junior matoh, City v.
