(Per Press Association,} Dunedin, l*s# night. Mr Thomas Mackenzie, addressing . a full meeting at Palmerston, said he would not associate with any existing party or any projected party. He was footing for a party with which ho could work in thorough unison. Ho wo.s a Progressive Liberal, and was not going to bo dominated by any ono man, being an absolute free lance. He would support tho Government on tho Federal mail service, and at the same time opposo tho Premier wbon he wished to sell tho Hokitika Hatbor Board ■ endowment. He oould vote with the Premier on the Preferential Trado Bill and increased contribution to the navy, and would also go against him on tho ’harebrained scheme of butchers’ shops in England. On tho motion of Mr S. Woolley, a motion oi confidence was declared carried unanimously by tho Mayor. Mr Dark, who was spoken of as Mr Mackenzie’s opponent, has not yet declared himself.
