Christchurch, last night. A man between 55 and 60 years of age has been arrosted on a obarge of 'having indecently assaulted a girl 10 years old. The girl is in a serious condition,- and her depositions have been taken.

To-night the premier addressed a mating at the Gaiety Theatre, and was en,thusiastieally - received by a cr®,wde<3 house. The address was on the lines of that delivered' in various other centres. He referred to tho increased value of land in Hawke’s Bay, owing to the cutting up of estates by tho Government and the close settlement resulting therefrom. Eei said that Borne holders of large estates* were dividing their properties amongstt their children, taking mortgages on them on the understanding that the portions thus divided were to be worked as odd property. He strongly objected to such tactics being employed, as ho was quite sure in most instances such sub-, divisions were not genuine sales.
