The s.s. Nairnshire loft Lyttelton at 3.55 yesterday afternoon for Port Chalmers.

Captain Edwin reported yesterday : j “ Strong winds to gale from between I north-east and north and west after 16 I hours from now ; glass fall ; tides good ; I rain probable ; sea heavy.” J There was a good attendance of farmers [ and others at the trial of the Deere Disc plough, held yesterday in Mr Watt3’ pad- [ dock at Patutahi. Mr Ranger, Dalgety and Co’s expert, was on the ground, and explained the working of the plough, which seemed to give universal satisfaction. It was generally admitted the ground was as rough as could bo possibly found, and if it can be arranged the agents will endeavour to give a further trial in ordinary ground somewhere near the aaleyards on a sale day, which will be advertised later.
