The largoly-attonded public meeting held last evening was called for the purpose of demanding railway extension aDd fulfilment of solemn pledges. The Mayor presided, and Parliamentary .representatives of the dietrict were present and spoke. It was resolved.that -the imeetihg expresses keen disappointment that the pledge to connect the city and-province with other centres by rail have so long been unfulfilled, and calling on the Government to redeem those pledges and.iprocsed speedily with the railway from Tadmor through the Buller.; requesting the members cf Parliament to secure all means in their power for the speedy completion of the railway from’Tadmor to Murchison, appointing a deputation representing, citizens of the whole district to proceed to ■Wellington and urge vigorous prosecution of the railway through.to Buller, the local bodies to appoint the delegates.
