Tho annual meeting of the Gisborne Poultry Fanciers’ Club will be held at 8 on Thursday evening.

The meeting of tho Gisborne Harmonic Socioty, to have been held to-morrow ovening, has been postponed until tbe following Wednesday owing to the schoolroom being engaged. Tho scow Haeromai, from Gisborno, put into Whitianga for shelter on Thursday morning, her fore-rigging having been damaged during the heavy gale on Wednesday night. A six-roomed houso at Whitianga, owned by Mr John Wenn, was burned down on Wednesday night. Nothing was saved. Both tho building and contents were insured iu tho Royal office, the building for £2OO and the furniture for £BS.

Tbs Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s s.s. Waiwera arrives from Napier this morning, and commences loading frozen meet from tbe Gisborne Freezing Works and general iargo for London. Messrs Common, Shelton and Cp. ore the loading agents.

At the hearing of the case against Edward Wilkinson, charged with assault on Constable McGovern, at Pukekoha, whilst in the execution of his duty, and other minor charges connected therewith, the evidence tended to show that the constable had let slip the man who had been making a disturbance and tackled the wrong person. In dismissing the charges the S.M. said it was no part of a constable’s duty to push a man about unless in keeping a crowd back at a public gathering. His doty was to either arrest or summons,, as fbe case required. The constable bad brought on the assault by his owu actioD. Charges agsinst two other men of inciting Wilkinson to resist, and failing to assist when oalled on in the JJingis name, were also diemieaed,

The default iu the first was seven days, and in the latter three months, the sentences to run concurrently. A woman, a first offender for drunkenness, was let off with a caution. In connection I with a rowdy scene in Lowe street on I Saturday evening, John Palmer was I charged with using obscene language, and as defendant decided to call evidence the case was adjourned until to-day.
