The 1 Japanese on the same day expelled the I Russians from Shahotyo, nine miles east of Changtu. They also captured a Rus- | sian position at Chihistzu, 15 miles north of Quangping. Reuter’s St. Petersburg correspondent states that after the meeting of Ministers at Tsarskoe Selo the Ambassadors at Washington and Paris wore instructed thal Russia was desirous of learning Japan’s conditions of peace. The Pope has thanked the Mikado for granting privileges to Catholic missions in Manchuria.
