MATAWHERO SALES.
The fortnightly stock sales were held at the Matawhero yards yesterday. The attendance was much smaller than usual. The sheep yarded were small and of a poorer quality than usually yarded. There was keen competition for wethers and lambs. _ _ Messrs Common, Shelton and Co., ana Dalgety and Co. commenced their sale at the usual hour, Mr J. B. Kells officiating for the first named firm and Mr C. Hellier on behalf of the latter. There was a fair entry of cattle and the prices realised were; —Weaners from 27s to 28s, empty cows £4 2s 6d, fat cows £5. A hundred head of 24 to 3 year old bullocks from Hangaroa were sold after the sale at £4 os to £4 6d. There was a small yarding of sheep, too wet weather preventing most of the lines coming forward. Messrs Williams and Kettle held their sale at 11.30. About 1500 sheep wore yarded and were disposed of at the following prices : —l6B owes 11s 9d,96 do. 12s 6d, 152 do. 13s, 63 big ewes 15s 2d, 56 good lambs 11s 7d, 69 fat and forward wethers 17s Id, 45 fat wethers 18s 2d, 41 do. 18s, 102 do. 17s lOd, 66 2 tooth ewes 16s 6d, 113 fat and forward 2 and 4 tooth wethers 17s 4d, 106 poor owes 5s 4d, 103 ewes 13b lOd, 29 ewes (small) 9s 6d, 19 mixed sheep 7s 3d, 34 empty ewes 63 6d, 107 ewes 12s.
