ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

Edward Looney, aged 60 years, was struck by a passing train near Tborndon Quay yesterday-afternoon, and died in the hospital late last night. At tbo inquest on Edward Looney, killed on tbo railway line, a verdict of aocidonta) death wus returned, with a rider suggesting that a plainer nolice",be put up at the crossing noar the scene of the accident, and that the -Government should enforce tho prohibition against trespassers on the line.

The West Coast coach, in charge of the driver, Thomas Newman, capsized at Owen Junction yeeterdoy through the horse shying. • All the passengers, were thrown out and were much shaken? Mr Pollock, of the Nelson Lands Office, was severely injured about the hip. A doctor has gone out to attend him. The coach was not much domuged and came od to Longburn,

He took part in a football match on Saturday, und went about his work as usual Subsequently., He first complained yesterday and rapidly sank. He was a native of Lyttelton, aged about 30.
