Tergo Yickcn, from Nev York, reports having encountered a hurricane on March 20sb, during whioh the bridge deck was partly destroyed. .One of the hull ventilators and a spare wheel were also smashed. The deck cargo, consisting of 150 cases of calcium carbide, was washed overboard. Hoavy gaies prevailed the greater part of the passage, and the vessel had to be bovo-to often.
It bos been arrauged that the annual colonial conference of the. New 1 Zealand Farmers* Union shall be held at Wellington on July 11. The Colonial Agricultural Conference meets on July 18 at Welling-
ton. Mati Bosich, an Austrian, who pleadedguilty to having illegally sold beer on Sunday, was sentenced by Mr McCarthy, Stipendiary Magistrate, to three months’ hard labor, and was disqualified from holding any license for the Bale of intoxicants ior three years. The evidence of the police was that -Boaioh kept a restaurant as a blind and conducted a very busy elygrog shop.
