SHIPPING FACILITIES.

(To the Editor Gisborne Times. Sir, —Verily I have drawn a hornets'

nest about my ears ; but notwithstanding this I must risk tbo old saying that “ Fools rush in where angels fear to tread,” and ask you. for further space in your columns to reply to nn effusion written by Kennedy and Evans, although they are begging the question of “ shipping facilities.” My letter in your issue of yesterday mornipg was purely a justification of wharf lumpers wrongfully accused. In it you happened to misprint 2s Sd instead of 2s Id for week I day overtime; but that did not alter the material facts. Messrs Kennedy and Evans in theirdetter blaze forth in defiance of themselves, but the wiseet of us make I mistakes at times, and they (Messrs K and | E) are not infallible. How, sir, I have I very good authority for saying that under the Arbitration Court's award we are entitled to 2s Bd, and 4s 2d for Sunday work

for the hours mentioned in my previous letter. In some—and mark you Mr Editor “in some ” —cases the employers refuse to pay us 4s 2d overtime for Sunday work; but as the arbitration Court has to deal with this matter, iu p'ae shape of a breach of their award, I will e»y no more on the subject, as I might be commenting on a matter which is “ sub judice.” Messrs Kennedy and Evans are. to suit their own Bods, usiog a word that.does not appear in the award in quoting “ double ordinary time,” That is the word 11 ordinary.” They also say that they pay Is 4d and 2s Id. for all casual work done for them; but as the pojicetpen say, I » from information received," the Union is filing notices of breaches of award in I this respeot also. Again thanking you.— I Yours, eto,, * ' ROBERT ALLEN.
