The Chief Justice has made a farther statement in regard to the expenses squabblo. He said that provision having been made for travelling expenses the Court would sit at Brisbane on the appointed date. He traversed, some of the Attorney-General’s allegations, amongst others that though the Judges held railway passes they endeavored to put the Commonwealth to additional expenditure in steamer fares. He explained that sea travelling was chosen through motives of economy, and actually resulted in considerable saving. He concluded : “ In the case of private persons the Judges have ample moans for protecting themselves from attacks on them or interference in tho dischargo of their duties. In the caso of tho Executive Government, their only protection lies in publicity. We did not resort to those means until the position became intolerable.”
