EXPERT TO VISIT COLONIES AND REPORT.

Mr R. J. Jeffray, recently ;appointed by the Board of Trade to conduct a commercial mission to Australia and New Zealand, has sailed in the Bteamer China. He explained to a meeting of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce that the Board of Trade had authorised him tq report on the extent of business diverted from the colonies to foreign countries instead of the Motherland, the causes of the diversion and the means of stopping it. Mr Barclay, ex-president of the Manchester Chamber, stated that the Chamber believed the Government were proceeding on right lines in sending a competent man to inquire.
