At the Supreme Court to-day Thomas Jones claimed from Colin Camp.bell MoLachlan £2OO damages for the seduction of plaintiff’s daughter in May, 1904. ,The evidenoe showed that the girl was in the employ of defendant when he seduced her, while his wife was away during her confinement. The judge awarded plaintiff £75 damages. The Tramway Board to-day decided to open negotiations for taking over the city and suburban tramway to New Brightcm. Sir Joseph Ward was in town to-day, butareceived no public deputations. Ho was interviewed by members of Parliament on matters of local importance. He informed Mr Ell, M.H.R., that instructions have been given to reduce the hours of railway crossing keepers here from fiftyfour hours per week to forty-eight. Sir Joseph also informed Mr Ell that in' structions would be given for publication by Government of the Municipal Year Book, the first issue of which. was pub- - iished two years ago. It is intended to publish the Year Book every two years. Masterton, last night. - - At the meeting of the Wairarapa Coursing Club thß Cup was concluded to- - day. In the final round Mr Taylor's*. Lobelia, Rory O’More —Shyrose', beat F. Biel’s Fortress, Maxim—Clementina, and won the stake. ‘
Dunedin, last night. At the annual meeting of the school committees’ conference, resolutions oarried in favor of altering the present, system of representation on education boards, and recommending that Otago be divided into electorates, the metropolitan to return three members, and the north, south, and central two members each. The principle of a superannuation scheme for teachers was endorsed.
Invercargill, last night. Therß have been heavy frosts here daring the past three nights.
