LICENSING ELECTION.
DISPUTE AS TO EXPENSES,
[(Per Press Association.)' Invercargill, last night.. To-day the Southland County sued the Winton Borough for its share of the lioensing expenses of the Awarua district which the defendant body refused to pay until the amount*aet forth in the certificate of the chairman of the lioensing committee for members* expenses of attending meetings was reduced to the actual cost of travelling. It appeared that a few years back the total expenses ran from a pound or two to nil, but amounted to £24 this year. The former S.M. (who was at Winton on Court business anyway) did not charge expenses, but Mr McCarthy, S.M., as Chairman of the Committee, had received a guinea, several members one pound, and those living within three miles from Winton ten shillings per sitting. Mr Orniekshank, S.M. (Gore) was on the bench, Magistrate Riddel being interested.
