A CHRISTCHURCH SCANDAL.
COMMENDABLE ACTION OF MB T, JE. TAYLOR. |(Por Press Associa'tijcnr.i)Christchurch, last night. Regarding a* seduction case mentioned by Mr Taylor, M.H.R., at yestrday’s conference on sooial questions, he stateß that the proprietors of the factory in which the ; offender was employed have discharged him. It is understood that the proprietors first intended suspending the offender until December, but Taylor would not accept this compromise.
Aooording to Mr Taylor the girl had bean under the ago of consent, only just over 14, but action thereon could not he taken as a month had elapsed. The girl died a very painful death whilß giving birth to a child. The man who bad caused the trouble had authority over the girl and many othere in a factory, and had made vile use of his power, and was unrepentant and insolent when spoken'to on the subject. The pevnons in oharge of the factory had refused to dismiss the man, and Mr Taylor haa threatened to publicly announce the names if the man was not dismissed. Mr Taylor is entitled to warm praise for the part taken by him in the matter.
