A Royal Commission appointed to en. quire into ocean freights to Western Aus* tralia finds that the evidence clearly proves* " the existence of a combination consisting of the Westralian Shipping Association and a ring of loading brokers in London responsible for the high rate paid for tho carriago of goods from London. It is timatod that daring tho nine years ended March of last year, the profits of the Westralian Shippiog Association totalled £98,000, representing 300 per cent. nsK profits, and tho local association got only one-fifth of the whole, London brokers getting the balance. The State Govesp- -'l'j meat, which is the largest individual i.tst shipper, pays at least £SOOO per annum i*— this enormous total.
