Christchurch, last night. Regarding tho comments made by the Coroner on the absence of any representative of the Railway Deportment at the inquest on Friday, the traffic, manager, Mr S. F. Whitcombe, states that he only re ceived intimation of the inquest 50 minutes before it opened, and was informed by the police that it would only be necessary for a certain railway employee to attend. In r eply to a question if the Department would ho represented, Mr Whitcombe had said that as the cose was a cloar one the police would ho able- to manngo it themselves. When Mr Whicombo was in formed of tho time of the inquest he was just leaving by train.
