SUPERANNUATION SCHEME.
(Pert Press 'Association.) Wellington, last.night. . At the post and telegraph social Sir Joseph Ward said ho would give his hearty assistance to have a superannuation scheme put on the statute book. He hoped thoy would take the suggestion be had made to them, and not to attempt to play a lone hand. It was only by large numbers ioining in a great superannuation scheme that they could hope to build one up that would stand the test of adverse criticism and actuarial examination, and receive the endorsement of the people for that stability which only numbers could give. The members of the Post and Telegraph Department, numbering 2018, would recognise at once that if thoy were to join with the civil service branoh of the colony, and perhaps with the teachers, who were also desirous of having a superannuation sobemo, they could put upon the statute book an edifice that would stand, ail tho tests ho had referred to, and in time would receive the encomiums of the people who doubted at the moment whether these schemes could work cut as actuarial successes. Personally, he was certain if they could get five or six thousand people into a superannuation scheme, aiui ttie civil service was included, they could obtain all the material advantages they hoped to get from a sebemo of their own, both for themselves and those dependent on them. Tho Premier, ha said, was already favorable to a superannuation scheme, and he would do his best with his colloagues to prepare a scheme which would commend itself to Parliament. -
