POSITION TAKEN UP BY GERMANY.

In the House of Commons, Lord Lansdowne, explaining the Marshalls and Caroline Islands settlement, said that Germany maintained her attitude was perfectly justified from a legal standpoint, bat intimated that she felt it most undesirable in a matter of trifling importance that there should bB any serious difficulty between the two Governments. The . Imperial administration would collect the revenue to meet necessary expenditure, and not protect in an especial manner any particular interests. British claimß were under investigation.
