The weather ia glorious. The wicket is fast. The attendance is small. Hill and Noble had to faoo Hallam and John Gunn when play was resumed this morning, Wass still being disabled. Hallam seourod first blood. Hill added four to his overnight score, and then in the third ever was caught by Jones low down at seoond Blip. Throe for 137. Noble was still 19. Arm- , strong oame to his assistance. Noble was very oarefui, and made only four runs in 30 minutes. Armstrong in the same time, by vigorous, confident play, put on 27. He hit three fourers off one of Gunn’is overs. Noble gradually brought his score to 34, and then, hitting across at Simpson, had his middle stump removed. He was 80 minutes at the wickets, and was dismissed the first lime he took a risk. Four for 190. Armstrong was 36 when Darling joined him, and continued to play free, esoellent cricket, with clean hitting and hard driving. The pair were still together when, with the soore at 234. Darling declared the innings closed. The Australians had been at the wiokets throe hours. Armstrong, during 75 minutes at the creases, compiled 56. Darling's quota was 20. The Rcores are :

George Gann succeeded. The partaer- [ ship proved very fruitful, and 100 appeared at the end of 75 minutes’ play. Jones’ contribution was 68, Geo. Gunn’s 20. Jones played with excellent judgment, and did tome fine driving. After passing 70 he quieteued down somewhat. The fielding was occasionally faulty. Geo. Gunn’s play was marked with occasional good strokes. A period of uneventful play followed, the score steadily mounting up. Separation came at 212, when Jones was dismissed for 103. Two for 212,
Jones was caught in Jong field by Trumper. Hia innings was characterised by clean bitting and strong defence, and lasted 162 minutes. He bit twelve fourers and gave a sharp chance at 94 to Armstrong, off McLeod. Two for 212. The partnership between Jone 3 and Geo. Gunn lasted two hours. George Gunn was caught at the wickot. He gave one chance and hit seven fourers. Three for 216. John Gunn skied one to Howland after he had scored eight. Four for 226. Dixon, with Simpson, played out time.
