CHILD POISONED.

(Pfflfi Press Association.)' Christchurch, last night. At the inquest on Margaret Ellen Mackio, who died from eating match heads, her father stated that the ohild was in the habit, when he was sittting at home, of takiDg hiß handkerchief out of one pocket and putting it in the other. Whilst he was writing on Tuesday the child had taken a box of matches out of his pocket without him noticing. When he finished writing he saw the matches strewn on the floor, the ohild having eaten the heads. A verdict of death from phosphorus poisoning was returned.
