Exceptionally fine weather for this timo of the year prevails, and our roads are ingood condition, the water tables having all been oleaned out and several pieoes of metalling having been done where tbe road was very bad. A

Feed is getting scarce near the Coast, but inland it is still plentiful, and stook everywhere is looking well.

The first Wiknwai bridge has been asphalted, and the other throe are to bo done shortly. Mr H. H. Fairlie has sold out his store and business to Messrs Connolly Bros., of Tolago Bay, who takes possession in about a month’s time.

There has been a slight change in the weather during the past’week, a few nice showers having fallen, which should give the grass a start for the coming winter. The Haupiri arrived here from Auckland on Thursday afternoon, and landed passengers and mails, also 31 tons of general cargo. She left again on Friday morning at 8 o’clock for Gisborne and the South. A meeting was held on Thursday evening at Mr Hayes’ Tuparoa Hotel, to arrange for the forthcoming ball. Mr Broderick was in the chair, and Mr Poole was elected secretary, with the following gentlemen-as a committee : Messrs K. S. Williams, H. Beach, G. Kirk, H. W. Broderick, N. Leslie, C, Williamson, A. Kirk, H. Bains, H. Dines, G. Oates, and W. J. Kirkpatrick. It was decided to hold the ball on Friday, 2nd June, in the large damping shed. The oatering is to be left in the able hands of Mr and Mrs Walker, i Mr J. J. Fry passed through Tuparoa yesterday afternoon on his usual trip as Messrs Common, Shelton and Co.’s representative.
