A man was arrested to-day on a charge %of having nasaod a number of valueless ' cheque!. IS is alleged that he purchased land on Banks Peninsula for £I6OO, and paid a deposit of £6O by cheque, which it is further alleged was dishonored. -By means of another valueless cheque he fflttrcliased a horse, which he afterwards *o!<L At Akaroa imd Waimate, and at £ olaees between those towns, he is alleged \ 4o have given a largo number of valueless ■•iohequos. Detective Mitchell, who arrested V She man, fiad never seen him before; and - identified shim from a written description „ whilst ho was walking along the road.
