LAND COMMISSION.

Kawakawa, last night. The Land Commission on the'journey from Whangarei traversed dreary mannka scrub and fern wastes.
John Hall, commission agont, member of the County Council, said the best land in tho district was held by natives. He favored freehold tenure. Some blocks in the vicinity bad been successfully settled under the Homestead Act, which was adapted for the settlement of this portion of the colony.
H. Blundell, County-engineer, expressed the opinion that the Austrians were good settlers.
W. Ward, representing tho branch of the Farmers’ Union, said that all the members favored the freehold tenure. Two' other witnesses favored the freehold tenure.
