P.URITiY OP MEDICINES., Threats arc again hel'd o,ut by. those who term themselves proprietors. of “ patent .’i medicines that Now Zealand will bo boycotted in regard to the sale of tho precious stuft; and, incidentally,, it is mentioned that the advertisements will be withdrawn —this no do,ubt being a polite intimation to the newspapers that they, .will no longer bo paid ‘lor disfiguring their columns with glowing accounts of how different people have experienced wonderful cures in, cases .where highiy-skiiied physicians have given up in despair. It seems that the threat has alarmed Sir .Joseph Ward, who has hastened to give assurances that things are not meant to bo as they seam, and that if they, really are so, some way will likely bo found, out of the diffiqulty. It is .to be hoped that the 'Government will not humiliate the people of New. Zealand by any eating ‘of hum'bleRie to those wealthy, vendors of socalled patent medicines. .The mak!ing of such a law was open to adverse argument that made out a very strong case; but Parliament saw, fit to place jtbo measure on the statutebook, and it is the duty, of the Government to sec that it is carried into effect in an reasonable manner. If the manufacturers of the various cure-alls refuse to deal further with) the colony, then it is probable that llie Act will have confenrcd a great ■benefit on Now -Zealand, for the loss to health will not he very serious i the threat is carried out
