Howell, Gohra, and wero omitted from the Aus’aljamtejjm, Sewell standing out of the iToliUr team. The wioket waa inspected at noon, and a start was made at 12.50. The Australians won tho toss and wont f to tho wickets, Beldam and Brearloy bowl- * ing. The latter showed rare pace. Truujper fell to him after making two in the fourth over. One wioket for six. Bobson, standing well back, caught Duff oil Broarley. Tho batsmen displayed clean hitting. Two for 43. A shower of rain aod cold wind got up. At lunch the soore was ttVo wickets for 102, Hill being 46. When he had scored 15 he gave an awkward chance to Warner at short leg. off Odell. Noble was 21. After taking half-an-hour to knook up three, be scored 10 in one over off Brearley. One hundred runs woro up in 80 minntes. After lunoh Brearley and Graoe wore bowling. Hill was making nearly all tho runs. Ho drove Grace out of tho field for a sixer. Then Noble became freer, and seoured eight runs in one over from Broarloy. After jjbout two hours’ admirable batting. Hill gave a chance to Maclaron in the slips. Three for 165. A little lator Noble gave Warner a catoh at long-on. He batted 1$ hours, and did some splendid driving. Four for 183. Armstrong end Gregory wero together, but the total was not inoreasod before Gregory wa3 caught by Poidevin in tho slips. Darling followed. The second century was hoisted for 4 hours 20,minutes* play. Ho skied Brearley, Odell securing the catch. Seven wiokets for 262. McLeod failed to score, being olean-bowled by Jessop. Eight for - Without addition to the score, Armstrong was caught at the wicket by Bob son, standing well back. The innings was marked by good play. The end came by Cotter plaoing an easy one off Brearley into Odell's hands at mid-on. Kelly carried out bis bat for a single. Additional scores are:—
