Tho Aliens Bill was read a second time without division after Sir Charles Dilke’s amendment was defeated by 211 votes to 69. Mr Atherloy Jones intended to move the.rejection of the Bill, bat recognising the unpopularity of this etep the Opposition announood they wore content to make an amendment in oommittee. Sir Charles Dilke’s amendment deolared that the evils of low-prioed alien labor were best met by legislation preventing sweating. Mr Chamberlain supported the Bill as the first stop towards the limitation of the system of unrestricted free importß.
