LABOR PARLIAMENT.
(Pea Press Association.) Wellington, last night. The Trades Councils’ Conference was continued to-day. The Committee recommended the following exemptions under the Shops Act: Chemists (for the Bale of medicines, etc.), fruiterers, confectioners, pastry cooks, restaurants : the employes’ hours to be limited in all cases t 0,52 per week. The report, with the alteration of the honrs to 48, was adopted. The Conference resolved that provision should be made in the Arbitration Act for industrial agreement between union workers and a majority of employers in any district, such agreements to be as effective as the award of the Court. A number of other amendments of the Act were proposed and adopted, including one to prevent reference of disputes to the Arbitration Court direct. A motion to urge the Government to appoint experts in the clothing trade, to ensure faithful observ- j auce of awards relatiug to the Jciothing industries, was rejected by 10 to 3. It was resolved that the Arbitration Court Judge should attend solely to Arbitration Court I work. It was resolved that the Government be urged to amend the law to enable municipalities to acquire gasworks registered underspecial chartsrs. It was resolved to recommend the referendum and I initiative, abolition of the Upper House, | and eleotive Executive. j Hater.
