THE NAVAL SENSATION
EXPLANATION BY THE ADMIRALTY. By Telegraph—Press Association —Oopyrlgh Received 11.59 p.m., April 28. London, April 28. The Admiralty has issued the following : One 12.8-iuch cracked at the muzzle aboard the Majeatio. A second gun showod signs of a crack in the inner A tube. They had fired equivalent to 66 and 75 full oharges. The steel inner A tubes were found to be soft. This was probably the oause of the weakness. The two guns are repairing, and will shortly be re-issued. Regarding the statements published, it is sufficient to quote the fact that the first 12.8-iuch fired 162 full charges before being re-lined. The statement adds : Guns afloat that fired the greatest number of rounds aboard the Mare, Caesar, and Jupiter, tired equivalent to over 60 full charges, aud are still perfectly serviceable.
