(Per,* Press Association.) Wellington, last night,

Rifleman J. K. FruokliD, of Weber, Hawke's Bay, has been chosen to go with the Bisley team instead of Ching. The team, which leaves to-morrow, is : Irvino and Millroy, Nelson; G. Hawthorne, Wellington ; Drummond, Dannovirke; T., Jaok, Ghristohuroh ; Craw, Chorlton, F. Wilkie, Upper Hutt; Martin and Pearson, Timaru; Brown and Shuw, Ohinemun; Franklin, Weber. The latter finished sixth in the last obauipionship contest. A meeting of shopkeepers and tboir employees last evening decided to organise a large deputation to urge the enforcement of the Shops Aot.

The Trades Councils' Conference continued to-day. There was keen competition for the headquarters for the coming year. Christchurch and Dunedin criticised Wellington administration of affairs. Eventually Dunedin was seleoted. It was decided that the next conference be held in Christchurch. It was decided, after an animated discussion, that the Government should be urged to establish legal bureaux and appoint public defenders in all oases' of indictable offences in which the acousod persons have not the necessary means to employ professional assistance. It was resolved to recommend that, all articles manufactured in the colony should bear a stamp to that effect.
