DUNEDIN NEWS.
[(Per Press Association.) Dunedin, last night. The Union Company have purchased the steamer Lady Strathcona, which is to be re-named the Wairuna, from an English firm. She is a fine cargo boat, and will be the largest cargo carrier but one in the company’s fleet. She was built by Armstrong and Whitworth, Newcastle-on-Tyne, and is almost new. Captain Jordan brings her out. Her dead weight oapaoity is 6500 tons. She will run in the intercolonial and Fiji cargo trades. Nearly the whole of tbe city and suburban meetings of householders last night for the appointment of sohool committees approved of the immediate necessity of a Teachers’Superannuation Bill. A similar resolution was passed by a meeting of the Mornington Householders’ Association.
, At the Police Court Harry Hart, alias W. Harris, was committed for trial on two charges of forgery. On his way to Court with other prisoners Hart made a bolt, but was recaptured after a short chase.
