BOROUGH ELECTION. TO THE BURGESSES OF THE BOROUGH OF GISBORNE 1~ i ADIES AND GENI]LEMEN, In offering myself aa a candidate at the forthcoming EJeotion, I do so simply because I feet it the duty of every citizen to serve toe State if his services are desired. I do not propose to moke any personal canvass whatever. Having l.ved amongst you for eighteen years and served you in i many public oapaeuies, I am content to allow that reooid to Bpeak for me. My platform, briefly is as follows 1. To see that in admioi itration, and especially in the expenditure of loan money for the establishment of water' supply, the strictest economy is observed. .2. To teo that -in all work 3 undertaken permanence as against makeshift is kept steadily in view. 3. To see that over all portions of the amalgamated Borough the revenue is administered impartially, and such conveniences are provided fa riy to all as our revenue will permit. 4. To work for the time when Gisborne will ocoupy the position whioh, from the production of its back country and the enterprise of its settlers, it is, in- my opinion, destined to fill, namely, ‘•■The City of the East Coast.” Yours faithfully, J. W. BRIGHT. Wharerata, April 22, 1905.

to; .the boroughs electors. “f -ADIES AND GENTLE'iVIEN,— In presenting myself asa candidate at the ensuing Election, I beg to state that, should I be elected,. I will at all times during my fterni of office endeavor to promote tlie best interests of the 'Borough as a whole. In my. opinion,; a good and safe Water Scheme has been, decided upon by the outgoing Council, and it now ‘remains for the new Council to sec the money to be borrowed fto carry out the work is carefully anil judiciously, expended. : A_ Drainage Scheme must follow sooner or later, and again the necessity. will arise for careful finance and judicious expenditure. .Roads, 'bridges, ap'd other such matters must at all times have careful attention, but these arc .questions which m;ust he. regulated by the money available for expenditure. The Council’s funds should be fairly expended over > the whole of the Borojuigh, and to ensure this, it will bo tho 'duly of the Councillors elected to make themselves personally acquainted wilin’ tho wants of the various parts. ‘ V, ; BARKER.
