ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

(Pen Press 'Association.) Auckland, last night. A fatal accident occurred this morning on the Waikato railway to a young single man namen Albert Hammond, a passenI ger by the 10 a.m. express train from I Auckland. When the train was about half a mile south of Paerata station deceased was standing on the gangway which i oonnects the carriage with the dining car. A coupling came away, and Hammond fell between the cars and directly across the rails, with the result that he was killed. The body was frightfully mutilated, about three oars and the van passing over it. The remains were taken to Pukekohe," where they await anjinquest. Hamrnon d was returning to Mercer, where he had been employed in the Union collieries. His age was about 27 years. A brother of deceased is employed at the Auckland railway station.

A five-year-old boy named Edward Gray was riding on a coupling between two road trucks being drawn by a traction engine this morning, when he fell and the wheel passed over his body. At the inquest a verdict was returned that death was due to a fit, accelerated by illnese. PalmerstOD North, last night. A working man, about 45 years of age, I was run over and killed to-night in the I Square by a special train from Feilding.
