Cr Lysnar pointed out that the returns in question inolnded the cash liabilities of the Board and the amounts paid to the County Council. These were oharges that they could not reasonably expect to liquidate out of the first year’s rates. With the liabilities mentioned taken out the revenue exceeded the expendidure. Cr Whinray said that the liabilities of the two Road Boards had been paid off, and they would not occur again. ’ The Mayor : They will be absorbed in time.
Or Lysnar : According to the expenditure you will have something in hand in each suburb. In Kaiti you have another hundred pounds to spend before you will be on tha wrong side. The Mayor: We shall have no rates in for two months and shall have to do everything out of the overdraft. Tha ooming two monthß is the worst period of the year. I
In reply to the Mayor the town clerk said that there was only £94 outstanding in rates.
