SCHOOL COMMITTEES
HOUSEHOLDEBS’ MEETINGS. The annual meeting of householders for ihe election of a Gisborne School Committee was held last evening, Mr J. W. Bright in the chair. There was a small attendance of householders. The following gentlemen were eleoted to the Committee : Messrs J. W. Bright, J. Somervell, J, Colley, A. Graham, G. Wildish, A. J. FysoD, W. li. File, Church, and J. Georgeaon. Mr William Foster, secretary of the New Zealand Education Institute, wrote stating that he was directed by the Executive Committee to bring the matter of a fund for the superannuation of aged and infirm teachers before the annual meeting of householders for consideration. The fund was an urgent necessity, and the Government were asked to introduce without delay the legislation necessary to give effect to a scheme established on a sound financial basis. Messrs W. Morgan and F. J. Bowley spoke in support of the establishment of the scheme. The meeting adopted the suggestions of the Institute, copies of the resolution to be sent to the Premier, Mr Yardley asked if anything further had been done in regard to securing a separate Ednoation Board for this district. The meeting of householders oalled to consider the subjeot had unanimously approved of it, but as far as he oould learn nothing further had been done in the matter. Mr Brown stated that the matter had j been laid before the various school committees throughout the district, and was approved of by them with three or four exceptions. Ho strongly supported establishing a separate education district. Mr Bright said he could not be expected, to carry records of all his transactions I about in biß head. As in other matters of [ business ho referred to the official record of the meeting. The Secretary stated that the meeting had nothing to do with the school commit tee, and no record of the proceedings had been kept. Mr Graham said' they had lost nothing by leaving the subject in abeyance for a time.

Every sum that was received now was ear marked for a special purpose. Thoy would gain nothing by forming thomselves into a separate education district. On the motion of Mr Yardley, it was decided that it be a recommendation to the new committee to go iDto the subject again with the object of obtaining a separate Education Board for this district. Votes of thanks to the teaching staff and outgoing committee were carried with acolamation. At a subsequent meeting of the committee Mr Graham was eleoced chairman and Mr Quigley secretary. It was deoided to bold the meetings on the third Friday in the month. WHATATUTU.
