LAND COMMISSION.

'(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, last night, The Land Commission drove from Culverden to Hawarden yesterday morning, and examined several tenants of Mendip and Horsley Downs settlements. George Gardner, formerly a settlor at Cheviot, stated that he held 1100 acres of freehold. .He loft Cheviot in order to get a freehold. He considered the land should be settled either as freehold or on the deferred payment system. He was in favor of giving Crown tenants the option of acquiring the freehold at the original valuation. Three other witnesses favored the leasehold aDd one the freehold.
