MOTU NOTES

April 17. Last Friday was a great day in tho Motu—three Ministers of tho Crown present, accompanied by a number of prominent Gisborno citizens. It was certainly very satisfactory to hear the Hon. HallJonea announce that a further section of tho GisborneMotu railway had been authorised. ,
Tho annual meeting of the Motu branch of the Farmers’ Union will be hold in the Motu school on Saturday, 22nd instant. The business will be to receive the report and balance-sheet for the past year. It is understood that Mr J. HqtchinsoD, of Bakauroa, will move to have the Bakauroa branch separated from the Motu. At the rifle range on Saturday there were a good number of riflemen present at practice. Bifleman T. Elliot put up the highest score, making the possible on tho 200yds range. Showery weather set in on Saturday ■eight, and has every appearance of continuing. Tho annual election of tbo School Committee will take place on Tuesday, 24th instant. 3ix candidates have been nominated to fill five vacancies.
