GOLF
The Poverty Bay Golf Club opened the season on Saturday afternoon with a mixed foursome. The weather was fine and there was a good attendanoo of players. Tho links were in good order, although the ground was rather bard for putting up rocords, Fully a dozen golf : balls were lost in negotiating the drain, ■ which needs oleaning. Tho pavilion, whero afternoon tea was dispensed by ladies of the club, has been completed, and adds greatly to the comfort of the ladies engagod in this very important departmen. Tho season promises to be a very successful one, and judging by the form shown on Saturday some very good performances should be made. Balneavis and Mrs Barlow went round tbe links in 77, which, with their handicap of 5, made 72. This was the best performance, although all the scores were olose, and the play all round was decidedly good for an opening day.
