THIEF CONFESSES HIS GUILT.

I Auckland, last night, | Alfred Stringfellow, who was charged J on Wednesday with having stolen the sum I of £240 from Matthew Gear, and pleaded I not gnilty, was brought before Mr S. E. j McCarthy, S.M., to-day. After the hearI ing of the case on Wednesday, accused had j notified the police that he wished to plead I guilty, and that was the reason he was again brought forward. The depositions | were read to him, and when asked if he had anything to say, replied, “ I am guilty of the charge, but I was tempted, and am very sorry indeed. It is the first time I hove been charged with anything.” Prisoner was about to say more, when theJMagistrafce informed him that he would be able to make a statement at the Supreme Court. He was then committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
