DISABLED BARQUE.

A MAKVEELOUS ESCAPE,

(Pec Eress Association.) Auckland, last night. The steamer Haupiri, with the disabled barque Helen in tow, arrived this morning.

The Helen left Timaru on March 27tb, and a few days later encountered gales which lasted till Thursday laßt. Hugh Beas swept the. decks and the steoring wheel was broken. On Friday afternoon the weather became thick, and Captain Ford decided to shelter in Hick’s Bay.

' The weather suddenly abated, .and on She barqueTTTowaver, missed stays'* and got among the rocks, but without striking. She had a marvellous escape from destruction. The Haupiri towed her out about eight hours later. The voyage to Auckland was uneventful.
