THE EXHIBITION.
.(Per, Preaa ’AssociatiOß. 1 ): Christchurch, last night. The Premier to-day conferred with the Mayor and local members of Parliament regarding the intarnational exhibition, and discussed a number of details in regard to the financial aspect. He stated that the Government did not anticipate that there would be say loss, but the executive could go on the assumption that if there was a loss of £20,000 the advantages would compensate for it. He had heard it stated that there was a possibility of a loss of £30,000 or £40,000; then they should reconsider their position. The Mayor said he never heard such a loss suggested. .The Premier suggested that a Boyal Commission consisting of the leading men in the different centres be appointed, and he offered the executive the services of a number of departmental offioers to assist and advise regarding the choice of site and other matters.
A meeting of the general committee of the International Exhibition was held tonight, and was attended by about 160 members, including Mr G S. Munro, of the Industries and Commerce Department, who represented the Government. All sectional committees were set up. It was decided that each should appoint a chairman, who is to be ex officio a member of the executive. The question of site was disoussed at considerable length, three different sites being proposed. Ultimately it was decided to select the North Hagley Park site, near Armagh street bridge.
