LAND COMMISSION.
,(Eec Press Association.) ; Tirnaru, last night. The Land Commission sat at Geraldine and Temuka to-day, and heard numerous witnesses, both leaseholders and freeholders. There was a notable increase in the amount of. evidence in favor of giving tenants the right to acquire either total or partial freehold. Several -witnesses gave .as their reason thefear that'the proposals for revaluation alleged to have been made by Trades and Labor Councils and town members will be applied to the existing leases. The tenants olaimed the right to the freehold at the original price. Some freeholders thought the price should be settled by valuation on a fixed-percentage added to the original price. - One proposal was the declaration of the acceptance of the option and payment of one per oent as a sinking fund. The tenants without exception claimed greater freedom in cropping, and some holders of small sections also asked for the right to enlarge them, and for the right to apply for a larger holding on condition of giving np the smaller when they had obtained a larger. (At present such holder must relinquish his home first and may bo left out in the cold.) Tho Commission went to Ashburton this evening.
