AUCKLAND NEWS

(Pce Press Association.) Auokland, last night. The Aacltland Headmasters’ Association diseussed the scholarship competitions, and the following resolutions were passed : “ That this Association is of opinion (1) that the clause which limits the tbolidays of junior national scholarships to children of parents possessing an income under .£250, deprives all others of competing for what should be a great national honor ; (2) that senior national scholarships be open to oil district scholars, junior national scholars, and holders of iroe places; (3) that tho examination for junior national scholarships should be based on subjects for Standard VI., and so mark completion of our primary stage ; (4) that there be one examination for the national scholarship and the Education Board junior district scholarship, conducted by a colonial board of examiners, on which each educational district shall be represented.” Mrs Dempsey, a very old resident of Onehunga, died very suddenly. The deceased lady had entertained some friends, and was saying good bye to them at tho front door, when, without a moment’s warning, she fell to the floor. She was immediately removed to her bedroom and a messenger despatched for medical aid, bnt she expired in a few minutes. Dr Fabst having attended the deceased lady, he is prepared to give a certificate as to the cause of death.
