THE ROAD TO RUIN
To-night the full company will appear in a powerful play written by Mr Georgo Darrell, entitled the t “ Road to Ruin’’ which has proved one of the most success' fal plays that has been seen in'-Ahstralasia. It was for many weeks in Melbourne and Sydney, and recently in Auckland it at-' traded immense audiences. The Auckland Heral|3, speaking of the play, says i The Road to Ruin” is’ an uncommonly clever Australian drama written by Geo Darrell, and was submitted to a large audi! epos at His Majesty's on Saturday night,
by tho author and tho membors of MaoMahon's Dramatic Company. The piece mot with tho hearty approval it deserved. Containing plonty of tho sensational elements that make melodrama suoh a popular form of attraction to playgoers, this play is, withal, peculiarly, free, from tho glaring improbabilities that spoil tho constructive valuo of many othors. ■lt has a literary quality, too, whioh, in conjunction with Its undoubted power, makes it fully entitled to a more than ordinary measuro of praise. Many a pluy with not a tithe of this ono’s merits has boon played to paoked houses in this city before to day. “Tho Road to Ruin, - ’as its title implies, skotches tho history of a man swept away morally in tho vortex of gambling and other vices, tho inevitable oxpatiation fol- ] lowing. It is so well written that its lesson strikes home with emphasis, and must exoroiso an influence for good if accepted in its proper light.” To-morrow the “ Sorrows of Satan” will bo presented. T
