MAORI VETERAN DEATH

.(Per* Press Association.-) Wellington, last night. Kaikonra Paratene Warnhe, a Maori veteran, died at Maungamanui yesterday, aged 95. Deceased belonged to the Ngatihi tribe. He was taken prisoner by Bauparaha in the famous raid on Kaikoura ■peninsula, and kept as a slave for some ■years. Then he was released. Deceased was a preacher amongst ihe natives, and was much looked up to.
