The Daily Express states that it is officially estimated that the earthquake casualties were twenty thousand, half in Kaugara Valley. There were fearful scenes at Dharmsala, where the mountain side split in several places. There were terrific landslips. Hundreds of tons of rock overwhelmed houses beneath. The European deaths totalled 37, and 20 are missing. Most people were asleep at tho moment of the disaster. A group of natives were engulphed by the sudden opening of a chasm while they were kneeling at a wayside shrine.
