OPENING CEREMONY.

In response to a telegram sent by the Secretary of:tho Railway League on Saturday to the Ron. James Carroll, asking what members of the Ministry were likely to attend tne opening ceremony on Thursday next, the following telegram has been received The Hon. Hall Jones will be present, and possibly the Hon. McGowan.” :Mr A. L. D. Fraser has already“intim' ated his intention of beiDg present, and Mr Herries, member for Bay of Plenty, and a representative from the Auckland Chamber of Commerce will in all probability attend.' A meeting of the committee of the League has been called for half-past ten this morning, when final arrangements will be made.

It is not likely that a social will bo held on Thursday evening, as His Majesty’s Theetre will be engaged by the DarrellMacMahon Company. The latter have extended an invitation, to the visitors and members of the committee of the League to be,present at the performance to be given on Thursday evening. Mr A. F. Kennedy, a member of the . committee, left for Napier last evening, and will return with the visitors on Wednesday.
