A MILD REQUEST,

(Pec Press Association-) I Cbristohuroh, last night. The Chairman of the East and West •Coast Bailway Committee Has forwarded to the Premier a resolution passed at a meeting of the Canterbury and Westland ! representatives, urging the Government to allocate the sum of £200,000 a year for the Midland railway, and in a covering lotter states that the committee are of opinion that the five mile tunnel should be let hy contract. Mr Blow, Under-Secretary of Public Works, states that the surveys to locate the five miles tunnel on the line at Arthur’s Pass are nearly completed, and when finished the Department will be in a position either to undertake the woi s itself or call for tenders.
